Dorothy attended Cle Elum public schools through her junior year then transferred to Ellensburg High School. She then attended the Peterson School of Business in Seattle. Following graduation Mrs. Boyd began her career in the Clerk’s office at the Kittitas County Court House, and later resumed her career at the Kittitas County Reclamation District as Office Manager. Dorothy and Wally later embarked on a family business in Ellensburg; Boyd’s Distributing with great success
She met and married Wallace (Wally) S. Boyd in 1944. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd resided in Ellensburg on a small, but productive farm for many years. They both enjoyed the country life raising two daughters, growing vegetables, flowers and having at least one of every domestic animal they could find. Dorothy and Wally encouraged their daughters to join Camp Fire, 4-H clubs, and the Ellensburg Rodeo Wranglerettes Drill Team. When her husband Wally became involved on the Ellensburg Rodeo Board, and then later President of the Board, Mrs. Boyd supported him and the community in multiple ways. She supervised the royal Court, took meticulous meeting notes in her perfect shorthand, and arranged meals for dinner meetings.
They later moved to Selah where they both enjoyed working on the family ranch, continuing the tradition of gardening, horse shows and time with their family.
Her family will always remember her as a loving wife, mom, grandma, and faithful cheerleader of their lives. Sunday dinners and perfectly grown gardens will forever be in their hearts.
Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her daughters; Kathryn DiMinico of New Jersey, Sharon Baxter of Yakima, and grandchildren; Jennifer Huber of Selah, and Michael Larson and his wife Rosa, and great-grandchildren; Samantha, Kathryn, Miranda, and Brandon of Illinois.
