YAKIMA - Cherie Marie Anderson, 71, of Yakima passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on July 2, 1942 in Yakima, and was raised by loving parents Chet and Deltha Mae (Tanasse) Phillips.
Cherie graduated from Merced High School in California before moving to Los Angeles. There she began working at Trailways Transportation System. Later she also ran a restaurant in the IBM building in Seattle. Cherie had a passion for upholstery, and her hobby soon grew into a career as well. However, most recently Cherie worked in the software and furniture complaints department of Montgomery Ward.
She met the love of her life, Leon Anderson, when the two were just children. As they grew older they were separated by distance; Cherie was working in Los Angeles, and Leon in Seattle. However, they always stayed in contact by writing letters and visiting each other. In a whirlwind trip to San Francisco, Leon proposed and the two were married on December 23, 1962. They were soon blessed with a daughter, Jody Elsey, and a son, Steven Anderson.
Cherie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Leon Anderson; daughter Jody Elsey of Yakima; son Steven Anderson of Naches; and grandchildren Brandon and Issac Elsey, and Brianna and Nicholas Anderson.
There will be a memorial service on Friday, April 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
