Vera Marie Roberts

Vera Marie Roberts, aged 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Columbus, OH, on May 21, 2024. Born on January 8,1933, in Hartford, WV, she was the daughter of George and Helen Johnson. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Lofton Roberts, her beloved son, Gordon Johnson, and her many siblings.

Vera retired from Big Bear/Harts after 37 years. During that time she worked in the meat department and she could tell you if an egg was good or bad, simply by holding it. She worked hard for everything she had. After retirement, she found joy volunteering in the nursery at Riverside Hospital.

Vera spent over 60 years in her home with her husband raising a family. At any given time she could be found gardening in the yard, trimming weeds (sometimes with scissors and often in her nightgown), walking the neighborhood with a Dr. Pepper in hand, sitting on the porch, or even cutting the neighbors' grass. Her daily walks around the neighborhood are a treasured activity that she has passed down to her grandchildren. To know Vera was to love her and neighbors on every block knew and adored her.

Vera leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, kindness, and compassion. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Austin (Charles), grandchildren Rian Mastin (Jason), Erin Ballard (Josh), LeAnne Johnson, Jennifer List (Roger), and her cherished great grandchildren, Jamison, Holden, Marin, Maverick, and Joselin, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Family will receive visitors on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 2:00PM at Schoedinger Funeral & Cremation Service, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085, prior to a memorial service at 3:00 PM.

Vera Marie Roberts will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, nurturing grandmother, selfless caregiver, and cherished friend. She was a bright light in this world to everyone she encountered. Her kindness, compassion, and wisdom, will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
