John Stephen Bilacic passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023 at the age of 77. John is survived by his wife of 55 years - Carol, their 3 children – Kimberly (Joseph), Karyn, and Kirsten, their 4 grandchildren – Charlie, Gretchen, Kaitlyn, and Mason, brother – Joseph, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law – Walter and Arlene Blum, Ray and Terry Corio, and many loving nieces and nephews.
John was born in Astoria, NY on April 17, 1946 to Mary and Joseph Bilacic and lived on Long Island, NY until relocating to Columbus, OH with American Electric Power (AEP) in 1980. He grew up in Rockville Center and graduated from Lincoln High School in Yonkers, NY. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Pace University of New York where he met Carol. He worked at Con Edison for 11 years and then for AEP in the Rate Department and Investor Relations until he retired. He was proud to be an early member of Delay the Disease, an evidenced-based fitness program designed for people with Parkinson’s Disease.
During retirement John’s passion was to play golf, travel, volunteer for Recreation Unlimited, and to work at the Ohio State Golf Course and many other Ohio State athletic events. He loved vacationing with family in Newport, RI, sailing the Long Island Sound, and spending long summer days on his favorite Long Island beaches. The most memorable years in his retirement were spent caring for each grandchild every day before they began pre-school. Charlie, Gretchen, Kaitlyn, and Mason formed a special bond with Papa because of that time spent together.
A memorial service will be held in John’s honor at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Family will receive friends from 10:00-1:00 pm and will hold a memorial service at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Recreation Unlimited or Fore Hope.
