Marjorie Humphrey Hubbard, age 100, passed away peacefully at her Woodstock home on March 15, 2017. She was born in Ball Ground, Georgia, on July 13, 1916, to Aldine Edgar Humphrey and Ethel Lowe Humphrey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Glenn Hubbard, and their daughter, Dr. Elaine Hubbard. Surviving are a niece, Pat Pope, a nephew, Bobby Hubbard, a host of friends from multiple generations, and longtime caregivers Hazel Redding and Rocio Basantes, and more recently, MaryAnn Elliott. Mrs. Hubbard was honored as the oldest living Reinhardt College alumna when she celebrated her 100th birthday in 2016. Before receiving her degree in 1937, she embarked on her teaching career instructing a math class for the high school on campus at the request of the Dean. After graduation, her career began in earnest as she taught at Etowah School in the Hightower Church area where she made $60 per month. She later moved to New Bethel School where she met another teacher, Glenn Hubbard, also a Reinhardt graduate. They married in 1940 and settled in Woodstock. She taught at Woodstock Elementary School until her retirement in the mid-1970s. Ties to Reinhardt remained close. Marjorie was honored as the recipient of the Evelyn Gordy Alumni Loyalty Award in 2003 and a residence hall is named for Glenn and Marjorie Hubbard. The couple was honored in 2012 with a special alumni recognition and presentation at the annual Talon Awards.
