Leroy was 1 of 8 children and was a native of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He worked as a welder for Bluebird for 35 years. He was a life-long Hawkeye fan and could be seen and heard anytime there was a game. He enjoyed festivals, fishing, Nascar and hotrods. After retiring, Leroy attended car shows and collected ’57 Chevys.
Leroy was sensible, reliable and a salt of the earth type of man. He was great at picking up conversations and would speak with you even if he didn’t know you. He would tell you how it is and would tease you if he liked you. He was known as a silver fox amongst his friends and had a great sense of humor.
Leroy is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Roberta Jackson; daughter, Peggy Nichols; and parents, Paul and Lulu Riley. Survivors include children, Jeremy Nichols, Michael Nichols, Marvin Riley and Candice Riley; grandchildren, Jeremy Nichols Jr (Selena) and Bobby Nichols; great-grandchildren, Emma Slover, Riley Nichols, Nathan Nichols and Ava Nichols; and siblings, Raymond Aynes, Phyllis Erbst, Shirley Dearth, Claudette Thomason, Adell Enloe, Linda Kinnison.
Services will be held at a later date.
