On the afternoon of December 31, 2020, our beloved Janice Arlene Gentry went to be with her Heavenly Father.
Janice was born to Kenneth and Hazel Horne on April 20, 1937, in Alameda, California. She graduated from Fresno High School in 1954.
Janice met the love of her life, her husband, Raymon Gentry through a mutual friend in November of 1955 when he was home on a brief leave from the service. They were married on June 29, 1957, and went on to have three children, Jacqueline, Brenda, and Jeremy. Due to husband Ray’s career, they moved 17 times. At each move they became active in their local church, singing in the choir, and hosting Bible Studies and fellowship events. In several locations, they even helped start new churches. Throughout her life, she held an unwavering faith in God that she shared with those around her.
Possessing a servant’s heart, Janice faithfully cared for her family and friends through her cooking and baking. She enjoyed traveling and went on over 60 cruises with friends and family. Furthermore, she was fond of playing cards because it gave her a chance to socialize with those she loved.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Hazel Horne, and her beloved brothers Jeremiah and Kenneth. She is survived by her loving husband, Raymon Gentry of Canton, Georgia; caring daughters Jacquie and son-in-law Brad Hinds of Arroyo Grande, California and Brenda and son-in-law Anthony Esparza of Milton, Georgia; beloved son Jeremy Gentry of Venice, Florida; four adoring grandsons, Andrew and his wife, Chelsea Esparza,
Jonathan Hinds, Ryan Esparza, and Matthew Esparza; sister Faith Moranville of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 1 PM. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at a later date after the pandemic is resolved.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation in Janice’s name to Gideons International by visiting gideons.org/donate or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pan.can.org.
