James Davis Daniel, 89 of Woodstock, GA, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2022. He was born on February 1, 1932, in Eupora, MS, as the eldest child of Thomas Ellis and Lizzie Geneva Nabors Daniel. Throughout his life James was a devoted son and brother, loving husband, treasured Dad, and caring grandfather and great-grandfather. James entered his military career on July 25, 1950, and devoted his service to the U.S. Navy, retiring from the Seabees as a BUCS/E8 on May 14, 1971. He was the epitome of the Seabees “Can Do” motto and dedicated the remainder of his professional career to construction, teaching the fundamentals of the proper ways to create buildings to last for generations, and volunteering for organizations such as Boy Scouts and Habitat for Humanity.
James was an avid, highly decorated athlete excelling at basketball and other sports. One of the highlights of his life was the joy of playing on the U.S. Navy Seabees basketball team. He was also a passionate fisherman who loved boating and everything about being on the water. James treasured his family, was an active member of Transfiguration Catholic Church, loved God and the fellowship he found with his church family and Bible study groups.
Cherishing his memory, James leaves behind his wife, Cheryl; his children, sons- and daughters-in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers and sister; and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a son, and a daughter.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, February 4, 2022 from 11:00-12:30 at Woodstock Funeral Home, with a Memorial Funeral Mass and military honors following the visitation at 1 pm at The Catholic Church of the Transfiguration,1815 Blackwell Rd, Marietta, GA 30066.
