Henry “Hank” Allen Wilkins, age 80, of Kennesaw, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022.
Hank was one of seven children and was born to the late Ernest Grady Wilkins and the late Willie Mae Greene Wilkins on June 11, 1941 in Marietta, Georgia.
Hank was someone who never took things for granted and was always happy. He found joy in the outdoors, in caring for animals (wild and domestic) and bird watching. He also enjoyed watching wrestling, drag racing, NASCAR and tinkering with his cars.
Hank had attended McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia and worked in a local radiator shop. It was hard work for little pay and while job hunting on the Marietta Square, he spotted a sign saying, “The Army Wants YOU.” This inspired him to enlist in the U.S. Army where he put his automotive knowledge to good use. He was a mechanic and obtained the rank of Private before being honorably discharged.
Within a number of days following in discharge, Hank was at the local roller rink skating like a pro – dancing to the songs, skating backwards and eventually meeting the love of his life: Thelma. The two hit things off and were married shortly after. Their family grew to include their three children: Cary, Michael and Donna. Hank worked for Chrysler as a mechanic until his health declined allowing him to spend time with his family and focus on the most important things in life. His family later grew to include two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Henry “Hank” Allen Wilkins is preceded in death by his parents, six siblings and great-grandson, Brandon.
His memory will be cherished by his wife of 58 years, Thelma “Duckie” Ilene Wilkins of Kennesaw, Georgia; children, Cary Allen Wilkins of Dallas, Georgia, Michael Stephen Wilkins of Kennesaw, Georgia and Donna Wilkins Hughett of Adairsville, Georgia; grandchildren, Tanya and Morgan; great-grandson, Gage; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
