Devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, Emily Louise Brooks Chapman, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 31, 2018. Emily was born on June 11, 1929, at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She married the love of her life, Thomas Gerald “Gerry” Chapman, on June 13, 1954. They moved from Atlanta, GA and built a life together in Knoxville, TN. They recently relocated to Kennesaw, GA, and were members of Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church of Woodstock. The two happiest days of her life were when she brought home her daughter, Mary Ann and her son, Tom from the adoption agency.
Emily's favorite verse was Psalm 118:24 - "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!" Her gift in life was hospitality. She was always the first to take food to those in need. She was happiest when cooking for her family, friends, neighbors, and church members. Anyone who ate her Angel Biscuits, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, or German Chocolate Cake were truly blessed.
Emily is preceded in death by her mother, Louise Summers; father, Walter Brooks; three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gerry Chapman; daughter, Mary Ann Henderson and son-in-law, Phil Henderson of Cookeville, TN; son, Tom Chapman and daughter-in-law, Michael Ann Chapman of Acworth, GA. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Katie (Austin) Anderson, Tyler Henderson, and Nate Chapman.
Special thanks to all of the caregivers at Northstar Place, Amity Care Hospice, and family who came to visit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation in her name to Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church, 6835 Victory Drive, Acworth, GA 30189. Arrangements are under the guidance of Woodstock Funeral Home.
