He leaves behind a loving wife, Dolores “Dee” and five children - Diane (husband Larry), Debbie (husband Paul), Donna, Denise (husband Mark) and D.W. (wife Jennifer). He was affectionately known as “Pops” by his 8 grandchildren - Brendan, Matt, Kevin, Michelle, Addison, Mason, Haleigh and J.D.
Don spent the majority of his career at IBM, retiring in 1989 after 35 years. He started with the company in White Plains, New York after graduating from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. His position as a financial analyst/controller took him from Croton-on-the-Hudson, New York to Boca Raton, Florida before finally settling in Marietta, Georgia.
After his retirement, Don and Dee translated their love of travel and adventure to 22 years of owning a travel agency, Travel Professionals International. Don and Dee have sailed on more than 150 cruises together - enjoying the open ocean and exploring the different cultures and people along the way.
In his final days, his mind was still sharp but he had difficulty hearing and talking. He was, however, able to read and write notes back and forth with the family. One of the last things he wrote was a passage from the Bible - “What God has joined together let no man put asunder”. It is traditionally a verse spoken during the joining of two partners at a wedding and an appropriate sentiment given Don and Dee’s 63-year marriage. The family takes comfort from the fact that he is now resting back home with God.
