Mr. Donald Ray McCollum, Sr, 80, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on January 13, 2019. Don was born on September 11, 1938 in Anderson, SC to the late Paul and Lula McCollum. After graduating from high school, Don joined the National Guard and then honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1957-1961. He then enjoyed a career in warehouse management for Dresser Industries. In 1982, Don started his own landscaping business, which he ran until his retirement. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. Don will be remembered as a fun loving, outgoing man with a great sense of humor. He always had a funny story or joke he could tell. He was a true friend, and would help anyone in need. He also enjoyed fishing and Nascar. Don leaves behind his sons, Donald R McCollum, Jr and his wife Starla and Steven McCollum; grandchildren, Joshua, Kayla, Alyssa, Adalinn, Brandon and Natalie; brother, Paul “Pete” McCollum; and sister, Jimmie Holden. Don was preceded in death by his siblings, James McCollum, Eleanor Norris, Dorothy “Dot” Pruitt, Guynelle Gulley, and Maude “Earle” Gibson. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 6-8pm at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main St, Woodstock, GA 30188. A funeral service will be Monday, January 21, 2019 at 10:00am in the chapel of Woodstock Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
