Mario Garramone was born on January 31, 1954 in Pietrapertosa, Italy. He passed on February 17, 2018 at the age of 64 years old. He resided in Astoria, New York. He attended Long Island City High School and went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Education from Queens College. He married the love of his life, JoAnn Garramone on July 25, 1976. Mario and JoAnn had 4 children. Mario leaves behind his children, Joseph, Nicole, Rocco and Candace. Grandchildren, Alessandra, Erianna and Gianluca. Brothers Joe, Vito, Anthony, Vincent and his sister Rachel. Sister in Law, Florence and his Mother in Law, Vera. Unfortunately JoAnn predeceased him in September of 2016.
Mario began his career as a teacher at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He retired from teaching after spending the majority of his career at IS10 Horace Greely Junior High School. He was a member of United Federation of Teachers. Prior to his teaching career he was a Foreman at Metro North railroad and a technician for Brooklyn union gas.
Mario enjoyed spending time with his family, especially cooking and barbecuing for the entire family and friends. He also had a passion for wine making and gardening especially to his vegetable and herb garden, as well as his cherry and fig trees and growing grape vines. In his younger days he enjoyed hiking and camping and outdoor activities. He very much loved playing sports, basketball, baseball, racquetball and soccer where he played on his high school and collegiate teams, he was an avid NY Jets fan.
Mario loved discussing politics. He liked to keep himself informed and aware of what was taking place in the political world.
The visitation will be held at Thomas M. Quinn & Sons Funeral Home 3520 Broadway, Astoria, New York, 11106, on Tuesday February 20, 2018 from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial Will is being held Wednesday February 21, 2018 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, 2325 Newtown Ave., Astoria N.Y. 11102, and Entombment will follow immediately after the Mass at St. Michael’s Cemetery, East Elmhurst, N.Y.
