She was born on August 10,1945, to Leo George and Ruth Dorfman. She grew up in Sunnyside with her parents and her grandparents Isadore “Izzy” and Sadie Brown. With her brothers, Geoffrey and David, her family moved to Queensview West when she was a teenager, when she finally had her own room. Judy graduated from Music and Art High School and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Cooper Union.
Judy first noticed Dan Fast getting yelled at by Clara Harrari when she was 8 years old and he was 12. When she was 15, she got into his car one evening in Goldens Bridge. Judy married Dan, the love of her life, on June 4, 1963, when she was 17. Her parents allowed it, because she said would live with him at 18, without getting married, if they didn't. It was a better decision than they could have imagined.
Judith was an artist. She worked as a illustrator, specializing in fine pen drawings. She illustrated 11 books and worked for many years providing illustrations for children's publications. Judith was extremely talented in embroidery, crochet and quilting. In her later years, Judith's quilts, like paintings in fabric and embroidery, were shown in galleries and brought great pleasure to her family and friends. In 2014, she put her work on a website for all the world to share, www.judithfast.com.
Judith loved to draw and take photographs. She photographed every event, both for her family and for her community in Goldens Bridge. She drew all the time – everything from sleeping grandchildren to a particularly beautiful cabbage. In her last months, she drew the nursing staff at Westchester Medical Center, bringing them joy as they cared for her.
Judy said her greatest works were her children Michelle and Debbie. She put much of her life's energy into raising and enjoying her family and friends. She loved to gather them together.
Judy is survived by her husband Dan, her daughters and son-in-laws, Michelle and Josh, and Debbie and Jimmy, her grandchildren Melissa, Abey and Izzy, her brothers and sisters-in law, Geoffrey and Tracey, and David and Neila, and her cousins Michael and Diane.
