Dear Mrs. Peterman:
             My name is Steve Richardson and I am a retired Lieutenant from the NYPD.  I was very sad to read, in the New York 10-13 flyer, that Inspector Peterman had passed away.  We worked together in 1984 when then Captain Peterman was the commanding officer of Manhattan North Narcotics  and again in 1987 when he was the commanding officer of the 71 Precinct.
             Inspector Peterman was always someone any member of the service could speak with for guidance,  advice or counsel.  More than once he guided me through problems in the NYPD and in every instance things worked out precisely in the manner he thought they would and always to my benefit.
              Please accept my deepest sympathies for the passing of a great cop and a great mentor.  I miss him.

To friends and family, YES the early photos of Jesse are great...the guy I knew. After graduation from SJU we never ran into each other again. Saw him from time to time on TV making public addresses for the NYPD.  Looks like he had a great life of public service and a great family. I went to med school then doc for paratroopers in 'nam finally retired in '05. We were 1962 St. John's Univ graduates and served our nation and family well. My deepest condolences to Mr. Peterman family. I honestly didn't know that God has another Angel. I came to know Mr. Peterman, because I used to work at the Empire State Building before 911 and during that time. I was contracted to the building as a Copstat Security Officer and was given the opportunity to work in the Building Identification Office with his Assistant Annabel Bonilla as I was her Assistant., although I had embark my career in security since 1998 I' ve learned alot in getting the job done. I think that Mr. Peterman would have been proud to know that I've been working  for NYPD  for the past 11 years and I am grateful for his kindness as well as leadership while I was working in the Empire State Building! May the Lord continue to bless his family, friends and his gental soul, Amen.

I spent time with Gene , as we called him, and Helen at several family reunions in Georgia, one in New York State and one at our place in Lake Riverside Estates in California. I was married to his  cousin John.  Gene's dad,  Jesse, was John's brother. Gene was always so generous when various groups went for a special  meal. He was always an interesting speaker. He held your interest.  
He loved being with the family members. Everyone liked him. He will be missed!  I am sending condolences to his whole family. Be comforted that he is in a better place.

I started working for Mr. Peterman as his assistant back in October 2011 at the Empire State Building.  He was such a nice, kind and gentle person.  A true gentlemen.  I was sad to hear about his passing.  It was an honor to have worked with you.  My deepest condolences to his family.  Mr. Peterman you will be deeply missed. 

I first met Jesse when we launched the first Class of the Police Management Institute, of which he was a charter member and I was the Director.  We went from teacher and student to friends very quickly and he was instrumental in starting and sustaining the PMI Alumni Association.  We continued our friendship at Alumni events for almost 30 years now and my wife, Ellie, and I share wonderful memories of our times with him at these gatherings.

Jesse was truly an extraordinary individual - the embodiment of grace and commitment - and he will be sorely missed.

Please know that he will remain in my prayers and thoughts - and those of all his friends at Columbia.

I worked with (for) Jesse for nearly 10 years when he was the head of security for the Empire State Building. We had some interesting times there over the years and he was always quite affable, even when things seemingly couldn't go right. He was (as others have said) calm, collected, smiling and quite "Mr. Rogers like" in his demeanor. It's very sad to learn of his passing, he will be missed.

I am sincerely sorry to hear of Jesse's passing. We met when we were waiting to be promoted to Sergeant on the NYPD in the early '70's. 

I remember him as "the voice of the NYCPD", always promoting the Department and putting it in a good light. We connected now and then during the '70's. He was a smart, kind, funny and gentle man. 

In 1980, while waiting to be promoted to Captain, I left the Department, accepting a positon with a Chicago Medical College. He thought I had lost it, "How can you leave the job now? he said. Jesse went on to be promoted to Inspector, making his family proud. I often thought about him.

My sincere condolences to all his family.

Mr. Peterman was the epitome of the word gentleman,  known him for over 35 yrs.  He was a wonderful husband , father and grandfather,  he always had a smile on his face, and  was very kind.  He will truly be missed by all.  My family considered the Peterman’s as part of our family. R.I.P.  Mr. Peterman and may you watch over all of us!
