Graduated Williamsburg Vocational High School in 1954 and served in the US Army 1958 – 1960. Worked in construction from early 1960’s until he retired in 1999, owning and operating a few different construction companies over the years. Member of NYC District Council of Carpenters and Joiners of America from 1970 – he retired in 1999.
Jimmy, as he was known to all, was pre-deceased in 1992 by his wife of 27 years, the late Elizabeth Catherine Samuels.
In 1998 he was fortunate enough to meet an amazing woman, Erma Glenn of Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Canada, whom he married on June 3, 2000, with his children standing up for both him and Erma. They were together 20 years and his children adore her. After they had both retired they resided in Roosevelt Island, NY, Clearwater, Florida and Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia.
He is survived by his children: Kristina and Kenneth Hurkala, of Staten Island, NY, and their children Corinne Hurkala and Phillip Hurkala; Donna and Christopher Lewis, of Tappan NY, and their children Amelia Lewis, Eliza Lewis and Penelope Lewis; and James G. Ursini, Jr. and Hollie Yanett of Frackville, PA, and their children JR Seasock and Kyle Seasock.
Jimmy is also survived by his siblings: Ruth McVety, West Haven, CT; John Andrews, West Haven CT; Joseph Ursini, Bradenton, FL; Carl R. and Helen Ursini, Stanfordville, NY; one cousin, Constance LaRue of Block Island, RI. He was pre-deceased by brother William G. Ursini of St Louis, MO.
He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom were often asked “Who’s your best uncle?”, to which they all gladly replied “Uncle Jimmy”.
