Survived by her children, Andrew (Kathleen) Malec, Stephen (Patricia) Malec, Catherine (Phillip) Leckrone, Margaret Malec, Christine Malec, Robert (Kate) Malec. Grandchildren, Tristan Malec, Meghan McInerney, John (Kelsey) Leckrone, Michael Leckrone, Timothy (Emily) Leckrone, Samuel Malec, Luke Malec, Peter Malec. Great grandchildren, Eliam and Alice Leckrone.

Preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Chester J. Malec, parents Pasquale and Maria D’Alonzo, her siblings Louis D’Alonzo, Laura Stevenson, George D’Alonzo, Eva Proudfoot, and Alvin D’Alonzo.

Helen was born on February 8, 1932, in Newark, New Jersey, the youngest of 6 children. She graduated from Barringer High School and became the only member of her family to attend college, graduating magna cum laude from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, in 1953. While working for Benjamin Moore Paint Company, she met her future husband, Chester Malec. They were engaged on Easter Sunday in 1954 in Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. They married October 3, 1954, at St. Lucy’s Church. They made their home in East Orange, NJ, until relocating to Decatur, Alabama. In 1962, they moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, purchasing the home she would live in for the rest of her life.

A member of Saint Pascal Baylon parish for over sixty-one years, Helen was actively involved in many parish activities including parish council, faith formation teacher and several committees. She was a treasured participant and leader of numerous Bible studies. Helen was also an avid reader, bridge player, and word puzzle enthusiast.

Mass of Christian Burial to be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pascal Baylon Catholic Church, 1757 Conway Street, Saint Paul, MN 55106. Funeral services also available via livestream on:

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 7, from 5:00 -7:00 PM at St. Pascals and 1 hour prior to the funeral. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
