He was baptized at St. Augustine Church in South Saint Paul, and later attended South Saint Paul High School, graduating in 1956. During his early years he delivered newspapers in the neighborhood, caddied at the local golf course, and participated in the events of his large family, he being the eighth of ten children of Frank and Anna Schneider. Carl met his future wife Jean Marie Sperl at a West Saint Paul drive in, where she was a carhop waitress on roller skates. They married on May 22, 1965 at St. Joseph Church in West Saint Paul. He worked throughout his life in the automotive repair field in body shops and service departments of several auto dealerships in the Twin Cities area. He had a lifelong love of music and singing, and sang as a tenor section member and soloist in the St. Paul Cathedral Choir. He was the Music Director at Saint John Vianney Church in South Saint Paul, and was also a member of a barbershop quartet. As Carl and Jean’s two sons grew, Carl became active in the adult leadership of Boy Scout Troop 513 in Woodbury as well as helping coach various sports. He and his wife Jean deeply enjoyed travel. One of their more significant travels was a trip on the Alaska Highway to Mount McKinley. They took great pleasure in watching their grandchildren grow up and attended various events
with them as they were able. Carl and Jean very much enjoyed going out to eat, and had several restaurants where they became regulars over the years. One of their favorites was Wiederholt’s Supper Club in Miesville, having dined there throughout their courtship and long marriage of 58 years, and also for one last time in July to celebrate Carl’s 85th birthday. After retiring from a full time career, Carl worked as a school bus driver for the Washington County School District, and also became intensely fond of jigsaw puzzles, as well as reading mysteries and spy novels. In his final years, Carl began to suffer from
Alzheimers disease, to which he eventually succumbed on September 11, 2023 at the age of 85.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, his sister Rosemarie (Ramirez), his children Doug (Shaelyn) and Scott (Jennifer), and grandchildren Catherine, Morgan, Joseph, Brooke, and John.
