Maureen was born on November 6, 1934 in Wawota, Saskatchewan. Her parents were Ronald and Josephine McPherson and her siblings are Patrick, Sheila, Ron and Alice. Maureen attended school in Wawota until Grade 10 and then continued on to Notre Dame College in Wilcox. After her graduation she entered the Regina Grey Nuns School of Nursing to begin her training. On May 13, 1956 Maureen graduated from the Grey Nuns and began her career as a nurse. In September 1956 she was hired in Montmartre and her career began. Maureen worked at the Montmartre Hospital for over 35 years. She worked part time, full time, casual and as the Director of Nursing for 15 years. Nursing was her passion and she always worked above and beyond her duty.
Maureen married Leo O`Shaughnessy in 1965 and they had three children Kevin, Greg and Donna. They remained in Montmartre and began their life together. Leo passed away in 1972 and Maureen raised her three children within the community. Maureen enjoyed watching sports that her children were involved in such as volleyball, curling, hockey, skating and baseball.
After Maureen retired from nursing she devoted her time to her faith and taking care of the Sacred Heart Parish. She was involved in the Catholic Women's League for many years and was the Sacristan at the church.
Maureen`s two grandchildren, Reannah and Donovan, who were her entire world. She attended many dance recitals, music concerts, Christmas concerts and basketball games. She would always bake something special for her grandchildren and always have a big hug for them.
Maureen loved sports and always cheered for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. She always watched baseball, hockey, curling and football. She was an avid sports fan! In her younger years Maureen played baseball and curled. She was always involved in the community and willing to lend a helping hand.
In the last few years Maureen struggled with health issues which slowed her down. Even though she was struggling she was always willing to help with anything or bake something. Even on her difficult days her door was always open for a visit or a cup of tea.
Maureen was a special lady who was loved by a lot of people and she was respected by many. She lived by her faith and held her faith close to her heart. Her passion was taking care of people and she did this on a daily basis. She will be truly missed by many and loved by many more. Rest in peace. Always remembered, never forgotten, forever loved!
A private family funeral mass was celebrated in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Montmartre on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Gerard Joy Montiague. Interment of cremated remains followed in the parish cemetery.
