He was born on December 15, 1936 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia; the eldest son of Ralph and Nora Mitchell. He spent his childhood years in Bedford, Nova Scotia with his siblings Marlene and Max. In the summer of 1967 Harry married the love of his life, Marilyn, and was blessed with two children, Krista and Kathleen. In 1975 the family moved to Clyde River, Prince Edward Island. Harry worked in service to the public as a firefighter for Transport Canada for 43 years. He loved harness racing and life on the farm would often find the family spending Saturday nights horse racing at the Charlottetown Driving Park. In 1999, Harry and Marilyn followed their daughters west to Whitewood, Saskatchewan. Harry spent his retirement years in the valley cutting wood for the wood stove, fishing at Jan Lake, and spoiling his grandchildren. He was proud of his daughter’s achievements as veterinarians and loved attending his grandchildren’s hockey games.
Many thanks to Dr. Wessel Roets and staff, the staff at the Moosomin Regional Hospital, and the staff at Broadview Centennial Lodge for the care that Harry received there.
Harry was predeceased by his parents: Ralph and Nora Mitchell.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years: Marilyn Mitchell; his daughter Dr. Krista (Leon) Mitchell-Robert and grandsons Maverick Mitchell and Joshua Robert of Swift Current, Saskatchewan; his daughter Dr. Kathleen (Kory) Francis and grandchildren Nathan, Nora, and Connor Francis of Whitewood, Saskatchewan; his brother Max (Norma) Mitchell of Chester Basin, Nova Scotia; his sister Marlene Stoddard of Edmonton, Alberta as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
