Shelton Dickinson Granade Sr. passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022, after a full life of nearly 86 years. Mr. Granade was a native of Greenville, Alabama where he attended Greenville High School and was an Eagle Scout, President of the National Honor Society, and an All-State football player. He graduated from Auburn University with a BS in Business Administration. At Auburn he was president of ATO fraternity and upon graduation was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force (USAF) and a Distinguished Military Graduate. He was an avid Auburn sports fan and enjoyed watching football and basketball games with family and friends throughout his life. After Auburn, Mr. Granade earned an MS degree in Public Administration from George Washington University in Washington D.C. He served on active duty with the USAF and in the Air Force Reserves, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a longtime employee of the Naval Air Warfare Center in Orlando where he retired in 1999 with 38 years of collective Federal Service. He was also a seminar leader for the American Management Association, conducting seminars in Human Resource Management in Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Fort Lauderdale. He taught at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL from 1975-2012 and at Webster University in Orlando from 1991-2013. He received each school's award for outstanding academic leadership and often said "teaching was the highlight of my working life". He was a longstanding member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Winter Park and the Winter Park Racquet Club. He was jovial, funny, and warm and loved jazz, good food and good company. Later in life, he enjoyed adventures with his wife and friends on trips all over the world. He took a sincere interest in knowing and helping people from all walks of life, and he loved times with his grandkids and often attended their baseball, soccer and basketball games. He was deeply loved by his family and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara, son Shelton Jr., daughter-in-law Betsy and grandsons Trey and Austin. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, Winter Park on January 18 at 3:00PM. His family invites friends to join them afterwards to celebrate Shelton's life at the Winter Park Racquet Club from 4:00-6:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Rollins College, Hamilton Holt School, the Granade Family Endowed Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid to needy and deserving students attending Rollins College Hamilton Holt School.
