Dr. Edgar Guzman, a devoted husband, beloved father, and esteemed vascular surgeon, passed away at age 47, leaving a legacy of excellence, intelligence, and love. Born in Arequipa, Peru, Edgar was the only son of Dr. Edgar Guzman and Dr. Teresa Arrieta. He grew up surrounded by his extended family, including his aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews. Edgar held dear the special bond that he had with his late father. He will be deeply missed. His untimely death leaves a significant void in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, patients, and community.
Edgar's brilliance shone early in life, leading him to pursue a medical career. He received his medical training at the Universidad Nacional San Agustin in Arequipa, Peru. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group Hospitals in Chicago and a fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio.
As a board-certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Guzman worked at Hattiesburg Clinic in Mississippi and the Vascular Institute of Michigan. Most recently, he continued his career at Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute, where his care and expertise touched the lives of countless patients. Dr. Guzman frequently contributed to medical publications, including the Vein Specialist newsletter and Endovascular Today.
Throughout his training and career, Dr. Guzman cultivated enduring friendships through his genuine interest in others' experiences and well-being. He was a gifted surgeon recognized for his leadership abilities, unwavering compassion toward his patients, technical proficiency, and willingness to teach others. He enjoyed mentoring residents and loved his time in the operating room. Working long hours was not a chore for him, as he was motivated to provide the best possible care for his patients while collaborating with colleagues and staff.
In April 2004, Edgar married Dr. Ana Vera, whom he met in medical school. Together, they built a life of love, laughter, and determination. He was the proud father of David, and nothing brought him more joy than his role as a dad. Edgar's generosity, both with his time and love, was felt by all who knew him. His unwavering love, guidance, and support enriched the lives of his family members, extended family, and friends.
Dr. Guzman was a brilliant surgeon and a man of diverse interests. His quest for knowledge was endless. He was an avid reader, passionate about philosophy, World War II history, bodybuilding, and fitness. His enthusiasm for high-fidelity sound reproduction and fascination with pure audio were well-known, and his extensive sound equipment collection is a testament to his hobby. Playing the guitar with his son was one of his favorite activities.
The family expresses profound gratitude to Dr. Pablo Arnoletti, Dr. Omar Kayaleh, and the Orlando Health Cancer Institute medical staff. They are sincerely and eternally grateful to all who loved and supported Edgar professionally and personally throughout his life and illness.
