Bettye Taylor Murphy

On March 12, 1951 Bettye married Curtis "Doc" Murphy. The family later moved from Georgia to Florida where Bettye attended the RN program at Polk Community College and earned her degree.

For 31 years, Bettye served as a dedicated Registered Nurse at Winter Haven Hospital, touching countless lives with her kindness and expertise. Beyond her professional life, Bettye found joy in gardening. Her gardening extending into making floral arrangements, bringing beauty to every space she touched. Her faith was also an important part of her life, as she was a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church for many years.

Bettye is survived by her loving children, Randy Murphy, Roger Murphy (Cathy), Kathy Murphy, and Heather Murphy (Matt Awad); as well as her grandchildren, Angela Adams, Stephanie Moreno, Julie Willis, Roger Murphy Jr., Richard Cole Jr., and Kayla Cole; 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis "Doc" Lavon Murphy; two sons, Gerald "Hoss" Arthur Murphy and Alton Lee Murphy; as well as one grandson, Roger Lee Murphy.

A visitation for Bettye will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 645 W Central Ave, Winter Haven, Florida 33880. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Southside Baptist Church, 1301 7th St SW, Winter Haven, Florida 33880.

Bettye will be laid to rest at Eagle Lake Church of Christ Cemetery.
