Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She came to Florida with her belated husband Otis Philips in 1952, and settled here to raise their family. She loved the Lord and she loved her family and church family. As long as she was able, she loved to cook and work in the church. She was a member of Grace Pointe Church in Winter Haven, FL.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Phillips, son, Donnie Phillips, sister, Maxine Murphy, and two brothers, Johnny Dishman and Carl Dishman. She is survived by her four children, Carl Phillips, Reba Clark, David Phillips, and Cathy Anderson, a sister Mary Ruth Leadbetter, 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many other loved family members and friends.
Anyone who knew her knew how important family was to her. She devoted her life to her children and family, whether it was cooking them a hot meal or making sure she was there to drive a grandchild to and from work if they needed a ride. She was always there for whatever was needed and never complained. She also often visited and prayed for family and friends when they were in the hospital.
She loved spending time with family, sitting around the table and playing her favorite games of Trouble and Train. She loved to win. She was a strong woman of faith, and she used every chance she got to tell her family of the love of Jesus and how important it was to her for all of them to know him. That was her greatest desire and she never stopped praying for each and every one of her loved ones.
She was a strong special lady and will be greatly missed, but will forever be in our hearts. We have the blessed hope of knowing we can see Betty again. Our hearts are heavy with sorrow because she is no longer with us, but we are happy to know that she has a new body and is strolling all over Heaven.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. Both will be held at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Winter Haven, Florida.
