It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mariano “Junior” Rosa Jr., who left us peacefully on November 26, 2024, after a courageous battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). He was 43 years old. Mariano, known to many as “Junior,” was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 21, 1981, and his memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
Junior was a man of remarkable strength, both physically and emotionally. He proudly served his country as a veteran of both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army, where his commitment to service and his unwavering dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. After his time in the military, Junior continued to serve others as a volunteer firefighter, where he put the needs of his community above his own, embodying the spirit of selflessness and heroism.
Junior led a successful career in Technology as a Senior Software Engineer at Dun & Bradstreet, where his intellect, humility, and work ethic made him a valued and respected colleague. Despite the many challenges life threw his way, including his diagnosis with ALS, Junior remained steadfast and determined, never allowing his illness to define him. His fight against ALS was a testament to his unyielding strength, resilience, and courage.
Junior leaves behind his loving wife, Adabel Mitre, and their children: Castielle Mitre-Rosa and Aidan Mitre-Menes. He is also survived by his eldest son, Elian A. Rosa, from a previous relationship with Milagros Vicente, with whom he shared a deep and lasting bond. Junior was a devoted and loving father whose love for his children knew no bounds. He is survived by his sister, Patricia (Antonio) Santiago, along with a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he held dear.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Mariano Rosa Sr., and his two brothers, Paul Rosa and Paul A. (Amelia) Rosa, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life. His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him, but his love, kindness, and legacy of service will never be forgotten.
In honor of Junior’s memory, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to organizations that support those affected by ALS, such as the ALS Association, as well as to veterans’ causes such as the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Wounded Warrior Project. Scroll for links.

His strength in the face of ALS, and his ability to continue to love and support his family even during his hardest days, serves as an inspiration to all who knew him. His spirit and love will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, and he will be greatly missed.
