Greg was born on August 22, 1962, in Alexandria Virginia to Maurice and Mona Cunningham. He joined his brother, Brad, and later sister Debbie joined the family. As boys do, they tended to fight a tad, but Debbie was the princess. She was as tough as the boys but did not hesitate to call mom or dad if the boys touched her.
Greg was a precocious child and loved to take things apart. He just forgot to put them back together! He liked learning but he liked making trouble more. He would distract the other children and make them laugh. He frustrated teachers and aides a like. Even his mother was frustrated and she was a teacher. He continued until he was expelled from public school. He was enrolled in a private school and gained his elementary education.
As a teenager Greg had a hard time coping. He left home at the tender age of 16. He hitchhiked to California and lived there for a while. He eventually hitchhiked to Oregon and lived in a commune.
Greg was an adventurous soul. While traveling he worked in a Carnival, yes, he was a Carney. He eventually got homesick and headed back to Washington state. At 18 he joined the Navy where he served for 2 years. He received an honorable discharge due to having a broken back previously.
After leaving the Navy he decided that it was time for another adventure, he soon met his first wife JoAnne. They later had a son Kyle. Kyle brought his dad tremendous entertainment and joy.
Greg eventually came to his senses when he met Wendy. They married after just 6 months of dating. They were married in Seattle Washington at the church on Myers Way. When Greg met Wendy, he ended up joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints. After nine months of marriage, they went to temple to be married for all time and eternity. They tried to have children, but it wasn’t in the cards. Greg then came home one day and said “Lets; adopt” so that’s what they did. Kc and Natalie joined the family and the real fun began. As soon as the adoption was final the whole family went to the temple to be sealed together. It was a wonderful day.
Greg passed away on February 26, 2024. We would like to give a thank you to the kind and caring staff Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. He is survived by his brother Brad, sister Debbie, Children Kyle, KC and Natalie, and wife Wendy. He will be missed but we know we will see him again. We love you, Greg. God speed.
