Gene was born in Emmet County in Petoskey, Michigan to Gladys Starmer Williams (Baker) and Clare P. Williams. He served in the US Navy as a radio operator, and was stationed in Adak, Alaska. After 30 years with Sara Lee Hosiery, he retired as Director of Sara Lee Graphics in 1996.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Wooten Williams (2023); his wife, Kathryn Netcher Williams (1995); and his sons, Mark Eugene Williams (1992) and Richard Lee Woosley Williams (2021).
Survivors include siblings, Mary Appleby (Jerry) Mocksville, NC and William Baker (Patricia) Red Oak, Texas; daughters: Jodie Ashley (Ronnie) King, NC and Karie Leopard (Timothy) Marysville, OH; daughters-in-law; Lori Williams (Mark) Greeneville, TN and Janice Nelson (Richard) Richmondville, NY; step children, Beth Nelson (Barry) Pfafftown, NC, Alan Proctor (Gina) Pfafftown, NC, and Paul Proctor (Julie) Danville, NH; grandchildren: Brian Ashley (Chelsa) of Pilot Mountain, NC, Virginia (Jinnie) Hill (Rich) of Pataskala, OH, Martin (Gus) Larsen, Esq. (Alyssa) of Worthington, OH, Shannon Brennan-Cressey (Przemyslaw Kosiorek) of Matthews, NC, Stephanie Craddock (Mark) of Horseheads, NY, Lauren Bible (Matthew) of Greeneville, TN, and Alison Shults (Scott) of Jonesborough, TN; step grandchildren; Stephanie Bender (Jacob) of Richmond, VA, Ricky Proctor (Michelle McCart) of Kernersville, NC, Annie Proctor (Rohil Chekuri) of New York, NY, Philip Proctor of Pfafftown, NC, Emily Proctor (Tyler Brennan) of Colebrook, NH, Patrick Proctor of Danville, NH, and Kate Proctor of Houston, TX; great grandchildren: Taylor Ashley, Richard and Kayla Hill, Marlee, Mason, Ruby Rose, and Griffin Larsen, Abigaile and Austin Smith, and Oliver and Owen Craddock, Brennan, Emerson, and Avery Cressey-Kosiorek, Evelyn, Luella, and Amelia Bible, Lottie and Casey Bender; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and family friends. Gene will also be missed by his Shih Tzu, “Ripley”.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookridge Skilled Nursing and Memory Care units as well as Trellis Supportive Care for their loving, patient, and understanding staff who cared for Eugene and supported him and our family. Words cannot express our love, admiration and gratitude for each of you.
A memorial service for Eugene will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 10 10:30am at Vogler Funeral & Cremations at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for a visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:30am.
