It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Sharad Chandra Chaturvedi on January 31, 2013. He was born in Calcutta, India on October 7, 1930 and immigrated to England in 1966, and to Canada subsequently in 1968.
Sharad was known by his friends and colleagues as an academic and a philosopher with equally profound knowledge in sanskrit and religious scriptures. He was well known and appreciated by his colleagues and students as a knowledgeable and dynamic professor at Killarney and the University of Brandon. He retired in 1991 and lived his life actively engaged in community, political and charitable organizations, and worked tirelessly to raise the profile of the South Asian community within mainstream society, from which successive generations will be able to benefit. He was passionate about his beliefs, cared deeply for the plight of others, and was always there to help.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Pushpa with whom he shared 50 years of love and marriage. He will also be deeply missed by his daughters, Amita Rachna (Nimish), and Swapna; grandson Aarav Parikh; brother and sister Vijay and Asha Chaturvedi; sister-in-law Madhuri Jain & Narendra Jain; nephew Rajiv and Charu Ranjan, as well as his many nephews & nieces to whom he was a patriarch in Canada & India.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday February 2 , 2013 at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard followed by Shantipath at the Hindu Temple & Dr. Raj Pandey Hindu Centre, 999 St. Anne’s Road at 7 pm.
