It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Saverio Gelardi on July 18, 2021 at the age of 94.
Saverio will be lovingly remembered by his wife Angelina (Princi), and sons Ralph (wife Tabatha and grandsons Dwayne and Saverio), Tony (wife Julie and grandchildren Alexander and Faith), Sandi Gelardi (and grandson Brody (Stephanie)); in-laws Lina Militano, Pasqualina Princi and Giuseppina Princi and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Carmelo in 2020, his sisters Nunziata and Angelina (Paulo) and niece Carmela and his parents Carmelo and Carmela Gelardi.
Saverio was born in Delianuova, Reggio Calabria (Italy) and at an early age apprenticed as a master builder. He brought those skills to Canada when he immigrated with his wife Angelina and son Carmelo in 1966. He worked in the construction industry for many years and later worked at Oak Park High School until his retirement. Always a highly skilled craftsman, he did not hesitate to lend a helping hand to all who asked. He enjoyed baking and cooking, spending time in his vegetable garden and making wine. Saverio was strong-willed and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends.
At this time the family would like to personally thank Zia Pina, Comare Antonietta, Giovanni and Mima Versace and nephew Ralph Princi for your unwavering dedication and compassion to our family.
A special thank you to cousin Carm for always helping, lending an ear, offering advice and your visits. We greatly appreciate it!
To the staff at Grace Hospice, although his stay was short; the efforts you made to make him comfortable did not go unnoticed. We cannot thank you enough for your attention, efforts and care for our Dad.
Thank you to all the friends and family for your kind words and support during this difficult time.
Entombment took place on July 22, 2021 at the Waverley Mausoleum. Pallbearers were Dwayne Gelardi, Alexander Gelardi, Saverio Gelardi, Carmine Militano, Ralph Princi and Joe Leuzzi.
Riposa in pace Papa (Nonno).
