Robert Owusu Ansah was born on September 25, 1948 in Akim-Achiase, a small town in the Eastern region of Ghana.
Robert was born to Akua Dede and Kwame Anane He was the youngest of eight children in his family. His family were poor and had humble beginnings but that did not stop Robert from achieving and excelling in life.
Due to his wishes of his mother, Robert was the only one of his siblings that attended school. He finished his early education in Achiase and proceeded to attend Accra Technical College.
Following finishing school, he briefly worked at a car factory in Accra where he met his life-long best friend Ben Nortey.
Robert married Diana Ampomaah on May 7, 1974. In the same year, he immigrated to Toronto before securing permanent residence in Winnipeg. Shortly thereafter, he was joined by his family in 1975.
Robert attended the Engineering program at Red River College Polytechnic. He worked as a manager at Silverwood Dairy for 10 years. Following his years at Silverwood, he worked at Naleway Foods in the role of chief power engineer for 30 years until his retirement.
Robert and his family were members at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church during the 80’s and early 90s, where Robert was a long-serving board member.
Robert was a sports enthusiast and an avid runner for 20 years. His many accomplishments include running the most prestigious marathons in the world including the Boston, Berlin, Tokyo, New York, and Chicago marathons. Robert and Diana travelled the globe in search of marathon running’s greatest prize, the Abbot World Marathon Six Star Medal. He was able to achieve 5 out of the six medals.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Diana Ansah, his four children Nora, David, Michael, Isaac and two grandchildren, Micaiah and Elijah, and his siblings Atta & Afua, and friends will miss him dearly.
A viewing and visitation for Robert will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd, Winnipeg, MB., followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM. A graveside interment will take place at 3:00 PM at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street, Winnipeg, MB.
