Peter Magda

On November 16th our family suffered a great loss, our dear father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather, Peter Magda, passes away at 1:50 pm at Holy Family Nursing Home, with his family by his side. He was 102 years old.

He was predeceased by his wife Anna, his parents and all his siblings. Dad’s memory will be forever cherished by his children: Anna (Allen), Kathy (Cliff), Victor (Ulla), and Peter. Also his daughter Katya and son Peter (Lena) in Ukraine. His grandchildren: Bob (Pat), Vicki (Nolan), Judy (Brandon), Donna (Dean), Darren (Rita), Tracy (Richard), Mike (Mel), Jeremy (Amanda), Derron (Brittany), Krista (Randy), Melissa, and Taylor. And grandchildren in Ukraine, Natalka (Vitaly), Luba (Alexander), Victor (Svetlana), Nickolai (Lena), Victor (Anna), many many relatives in Ukraine.

Dad was born in Preobrazhenka Ukraine. He had 8 brothers and one sister. The family lived thru extremely turbulent times and suffered greatly. Only one brother survived the war and famine. In 1943 when Neuendorf was evacuated, Mom and Dad left the village by train with all the other residents. The next six years were spent in various refugee camps and finally they were allowed to come to Canada. Mom and Dad worked for their sponsor for a year and then ventured out to find work and a place to live.

Just by smiling Dad could fill a room with warmth and bring joy to the people around him. He was an inspiration to us all. He was kind and generous, a hard worker, and he had a great sense of humor. We will miss him very much. Any man can be a father, it takes a special man to be a loving Dad.

The family would very much like to thank the amazing staff at Holy Family, who treated Dad with such kindness and gave him the dignity that he so deserved.

Funeral Service will be held at Klassen Funeral Home 1897 Henderson Hwy on Saturday November 30, 2013 at 10:00 am with visitation half an hour before the service. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made to Holy Family Nursing Home 165 Aberdeen Ave. Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9 if desired.
