Peter Robert Lang
September 5, 1945 – February 15, 2023
It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Peter (Pete) Lang, age 77 on February 15, 2023, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Pete was predeceased by his father, Cyrus and mother, Rose. He is survived by his wife Claudette, sons; Jason (Heather), Travis (Heather), daughter; Treena (Jeremy), his six grandchildren; Gavin, Makenna, Madison, Owen, Shea, Hunter, and his sisters; Iris (Ron) and Muriel along with many extended family members and friends.
Pete was born in Lachute, Quebec on September 5, 1945. He met his beloved wife in 1967 during the Expo 67 celebrations in Montreal, Quebec. It was an easy decision to follow Claudette back to Manitoba where they would eventually be married on November 8, 1968, and start a family.
Pete was the ultimate family man and took pride in getting involved in the community with all three of his children’s activities. He met many of his friends through hockey, ringette, and his volunteer work at the local community club. As his children grew, the “Lang house” became the hot spot for most social gatherings, as well as the pre and post celebration place to be in Fort Richmond! Friday and Saturday nights gave Pete the opportunity to drive kids home or pick them up anywhere at any time, to keep everyone safe. He was the dedicated chauffeur and loved every minute of it.
As his kids started their own families, his dedication to sports and the community continued through his grandchildren. He rarely missed a hockey game, soccer game, or dance recital involving his grandkids in Winnipeg. Several trips out to Ontario were a special time to be with his grandchildren that lived away from his home in Winnipeg. He was so proud of each one of them and would take every opportunity to talk and brag about their talents and passion for sports!
Pete was also known as “handyman Pete” as he loved to fix and build things for his family and friends. Many basement projects, home improvements and quick fixes were completed by Pete. As long as lunch was provided and time could be shared together, this was where he wanted to be. He had a love for food and enjoyed his large family dinners the most.
Pete left us all far too soon. We know he is looking down on his family and is amazed by the strength and perseverance of his beloved wife during her road to recovery.
Dad, we miss you, we love you, and you will never be forgotten.
We would like to send out a special thank you to those that were with Peter and Claudette on February 15, including the Ontario Provincial Police, along with the Surgeons, Doctors and Nursing staff from the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home 1291 McGillivray Blvd, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Thursday, July 20 at 2:00 pm. A private family inurnment will follow the reception.
