Pat was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Sheila Bennett, her sisters, Anne and Mary and her brother David. Pat will be dearly missed by her six grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Madison, Reanne, Lauren and Jack, her sister Sue Gillot and family in Texas, her eldest niece Karen Harris in Vermont and numerous nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.
Pat was born and raised in East Kildonan moving to East St Paul in her early teens. Attending Prince Edward, Polson, Melrose, and River East and finally graduating from Business College in accounting in 1962.
Skating, baseball and hanging out at Kelvin Community Club were favourite pastimes and it was in the winter of 1960 that Pat met her future husband - a curly haired guy whose hockey career had just ended due to injury.
In 1966 Pat and Harry were married and ventured to Anaheim, California to seek fame and fortune. After two successful years and welcoming their son, Pat and Harry agreed that their future happiness was where they met and grew up in Winnipeg. Time spent at the family cottages at Laclu played a big part in the decision to move home.
Richard, Tamara and Kelly were lovingly raised and schooled in Morse Place and in 1982, Pat rejoined the work force at Richardson Greenshields where she retired in 1997. As a working Mom, she didn’t miss a beat with our household running like a well oiled machine and homemade dinner on the table by 5:30 every evening.
Starting in 1999, and right to the end, Pat’s love of family went to another dimension with the arrival of her six grandchildren. Their “Nanny’s” love for them was returned six-fold.
Harry and Pat enjoyed many years of travelling together including European and Winter Caribbean vacations. Some of Mom’s best times include sitting on the deck at LacLu surrounded by family and friends, trips to Mahnomen, “Broad Squad” get-togethers in Grand Forks and “Huskette” weekends at the lake.
Nanny/Mom/Pat’s legacy of love for family and friends displayed throughout her entire life will enable us all to move forward.
Rest peacefully Pat, we will carry on.
A celebration of life will be held on January 5th at 1:00pm at Klassen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
