Otto was born on October 10th, 1936 in Marienfelde, Ukraine to Otto and Frieda Ruf. Otto was predeceased by his wife Bernice in 2015. He will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Kelly, Alison, and Perdita and his grandchildren, Chaizz (Caroline) and Ainsley (Connor).
Otto leaves behind a legacy of hard work, joy, and love. Throughout his life, he epitomized dedication in both his craftsmanship and his devotion to family. His humour brought joy to all, with his laughter lighting up every room. With a smile that could brighten even the darkest of days, Otto's warmth and wit charmed everyone he met.We have fond memories gathering at the family home which Dad bought over 50 years ago. He transformed the small house into a beautiful home for his family to grow and make memories in. The holidays were a special time at the Ruf household. Everyone was welcome to stop by and warm up by the fire while Dad played the harmonica and shared stories about growing up in Northern Germany.
Otto and his brother Helmut owned and operated a successful custom home building company for over 60 years. Otto was passionate about his work and through it he developed many lifelong friendships. Their work ethic and workmanship were well respected and carried their lifelong career through word of mouth alone.
Every year, Dad, Mom, and us girls went on a road trip to Victoria, B.C. or Blue Lake, ON. We traveled in comfort in the customized truck cab that Dad converted. The cab was outfitted with a bed, carpeting, and a play area. We have fond memories of going on adventures with Mom and Dad at Blue Lake. Dad took us on canoe rides around the marsh and along the shoreline to admire the picturesque lake front cabins. Dad loved to take the family blueberry picking and treated us to fresh blueberry pancakes in the morning while camping. Years later, Otto and Bernice continued their road trip tradition by taking their grandchildren to Victoria, B.C.
We will never forget the countless life lessons that Dad instilled onto us, including his unwavering integrity, dedicated work ethic, and the ability to make the most out of every situation.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation.
