What grief! Since Wednesday, September 9, 2020, the Beauchemin - MacDougall families are mourning the loss of a husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Michel was born the youngest of seven children to Gérard and Mary (Smessaert) Beauchemin. He has resided in Ile-Des-Chênes all his life.
Mitch was predeceased by his father Gérard, mother Mary, sister Agnès, brother Gilles, brother-in-law Gord Ross, and Mitch's in-laws, Gerry and John MacDougall.
Left to cherish Mitch's memory are his wife, soul mate and friend Cathy (MacDougall), Mitch's children: son Robert (Erica), daughter Nicole (Alex) Anderson, and their mother Michelle (Lima); Mitch's siblings: Mike Syganiec, Armand (Marjorie), Lucien (Judy), Cec Ross, Lucie (Gil) St. Laurent; and 12 nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends; Cathy's son Darryl (Tracy) Giles; stepgrandchildren: Cody and Kera (Austyn); his brothers-in-law, Ron (Danielle) MacDougall, Darrell (Rita) MacDougall, and sister-in-law Barbie (Billy) Draper.
Mitch was a quiet, gentle and generous individual, always ready to lend a helping hand, yet never needing recognition! He was a member of the Ile-Des-Chênes Knights of Columbus Council and an advocate for Diabetes Manitoba.
Having had diabetes since his teen years, Mitch lobbied the government in the name of all those afflicted with the disease, in order to have the price of insulin pumps covered under Health Care.
On February 2, 2020...great news! Toronto hospital had a donor. Within hours, Cathy and Mitch were flown to Toronto! Mitch became the recipient of a kidney and pancreas transplant...meaning no more diabetes! What joy! Mitch was ever so grateful to the donor who had given him a second chance at a normal life.
Every day thereafter, Mitch prayed for the donor, and praised God who had made all this come together. And so began Mitch's journey to recovery, as he returned to Manitoba on February 29, 2020.
Come March, with the pandemic, so began his journey of fear and doubt. Being a man of profound faith, Mitch prayed and fought so hard to overcome his fear and depression. However, September 9, 2020, proved Mitch had no more strength to fight.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private Funeral Mass will be held at Notre-Dame-de-la-Miséricorde Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Manitoba.
Rest in well-deserved peace, Michel (Mitch)!
We love you!
