It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Maria Luisa Salta on July 12, 2024 at the age of 70. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Anita, Angel, Elsie (Alberto Oliver), grandson Fordy, fur-baby Robin and grandnephew Jobet. She will also be missed by all her family, relatives and friends from Canada, Philippines and the United States.
Maria was predeceased by her dear husband Danilo Gomez, loving parents Jose Salta, Juliana Salta and siblings Rodolfo, Romulo (Tina), Maria Fe Castillo (Edgar) and son-in-law Alberto Oliver.
Maria Luisa (AKA) Mama Giding or Mama Luisa was born and raised in Mandaluyong City. At an early age, Maria and her husband Danilo started their family in Olongapo City, where they were blessed with three daughters whom they always addressed as their tres Marias.
Their home was filled with laughter, love and the warmth of family traditions. Maria Luisa, with her gentle demeanor and nurturing spirit, was the heart of the household. She was known for her exceptional cooking skills, often preparing sumptuous dinner that brought everyone together around the dining table. Her pancit, spaghetti, and lumpiang shanghai (springrolls) were legendary in the neighborhood, leaving friends and family eagerly anticipating the next gathering. Mama Giding loved to take care of her children and to serve them all her life.
She was not a typical mother who trains her children how to do household chores because she loved to do it herself. She loved to cook for them, clean their houses, do their laundry and almost everything until her last day. During her younger years Mama Giding found joy in assisting neighbors who require help in different aspects such as pregnancy, apartment hunting, moving overseas, and particularly in babysitting. She cared for those babies as if they were her own and part of her family.
During her free time, Mama Giding joined her daughters in binge-watching soap operas (tele series), K-dramas on Netflix and other daytime shows. She also found pleasure in watching YouTube vlogs as a way to relax.
Mama Giding was not a fan of traveling, but her love for her children and only grandson motivated her to join them on adventures to explore stunning locations in Canada and the United States. She had the opportunity to witness the majestic Niagara Falls, visit Canada's Wonderland, explore Banff and Lake Louise, experience Disney World and Lego Land, and most recently, they toured Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Mama Giding always reminded her children to be forgiving at all times. It's a lesson she holds dear, believing that harboring resentment only weighs down the heart. Through her gentle guidance, they learned that the acts of forgiving and kindness are the keys to a peaceful life.
She had a strong faith in God and listened to Tagalog mass religiously. She found comfort and joy in her prayers and listening to worship songs everyday.
Each of her daughters believe that she is now in a much better place resting in peace with our Almighty Father. They find comfort in the thought that her spirit is surrounded by love and light, free from the pains and worries.
Though she may no longer be with them in body, her legacy lives on in their hearts, inspiring them to live with the same grace and compassion she exemplified every day. Mama Giding will be deeply missed, and her memory will be cherished forever.
