

Born to Arthur Ross and Elizabeth Sloan Trotter on June 22, 1927 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She pursued further education at the University of Alberta earning a BSc, a MSc and ultimately a Doctor of Medicine. She attained a specialty in Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa.
Margaret met David Fish at an Alpine Club camp at Roche Miette in Jasper. They married in 1955 and when they had their first baby, Kathleen, she was kept in a basket under her desk in the Anatomy department at U of A. Margaret was a trailblazer for working mothers managing both an academic career and a family as Sheila and Ian were born.
In 1964 the family drove across the country to Ottawa. Margaret switched to the practical side of medicine providing medical care and a bit of mothering to Carleton U students. Though she loved academia she thrived on patient contact and ultimately had a private psychiatric practice.
Margaret's years in Ottawa living between the Rideau River and Canal were filled with walks through the city, gardening, theatre, symphonies and opera and browsing antique stores.
She moved to Winnipeg in 2002 to be closer to family. Living by the Assiniboine River under the big prairie sky of her childhood was a homecoming of sort
Margaret leaves her children: Kathleen (Warren) Waxer, Sheila delaVarende, Ian Fish (Jerri -Lee Mackay). Grandchildren: Hannah (Michael Ramsay), Clara and Ben Waxer, Emmanuel delaVarende and Jackson and Erika Gustafson-Fish. Step-grandchildren Emily and Zachary Ducharme. Special friend Jim Baker and family and Francois delaVarende.
She was predeceased by her parents: Arthur and Bessie Trotter, former husband David Fish, brother Graham Trotter and sister Florence Stewart.
Funeral services was held on Thursday, February 14 at 1:30 pm at St. Margaret’s Anglican Parish Church 160 Ethelbert Street at Westminster Avenue.
