It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of June Kathleen Sanderson (née Hunter) on November 2nd, 2022, at the age of 78. Her limitless patience, beautiful smile and carefree laugh will be remembered with love by her family and friends.
June is predeceased by her husband Joseph, brothers Keith and Brent Hunter and her parents Henry James Hunter and Kathleen Jessie Hunter (née Irvine).
Surviving June are her daughter Jilleen and son-in-law Robert Ryan of Winnipeg, her step-granddaughters Emily of Vancouver and Alyssa of Winnipeg, her son James and daughter-in-law Irene, grandsons Matthew and David and her step-grandchildren Guy, Tal, and Jackson of Ottawa.
June was born to James and Kathleen in Winnipeg on June 9th, 1944. June was loyal to the city she called home. Her children James and Jilleen were born while her and her husband Joseph moved across several places in Canada. They came back to Winnipeg to raise them and to live out the rest of their lives.
June started her career as a teacher after completing a degree at the University of Manitoba in 1968, where she majored in anthropology and minored in psychology. Following the birth of her first child Jamie, she then became a stay at home mom and later trained to work at the Winnipeg Public Library at many of its branches. She made several friends there, during her 18 years of service.
In May, with the amazing support of Jilleen and Bob, June was able to make the trip to Ottawa to be a part of her son Jamie and now daughter-in-law Irene's wedding. She was beaming throughout the ceremony and reception and honoured to welcome Irene and her children into her now expanded family. June was also an especially strong believer in higher education and very proud to have recently generously provided the financial and emotional support that allowed her daughter Jilleen to pursue an honours degree at her own alma mater.
Her funeral service and reception will be held at the Thomson In The Park Funeral Home located at 1291 McGillivray Boulevard on Monday, November 14th at 10 AM, followed by burial at Elmwood Cemetery at 88 Hespeler Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, please remember June the next time you visit the library or are enjoying a good book. Donations to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter are also appreciated.
