We’re sad to share that Jack passed away with family at his side at age 84 on January 26th at St. Boniface Hospital.
Jack will be sadly missed by his wife of over 59 years Rosalind, son Douglas, daughter Shelley (Brad) Day, grandchildren Ben and Ray (Irvine), Chelsea, William, Tristan (Day), and his sister Beverley (Sam) Mozell and brother and sisters-in-law Kenneth and Marilyn Sime and Lorna Irvine as well as his nieces and nephews, Susan, Rick, Grant, Michael, Kerri, Scott, and Jennifer. He is predeceased by his sister Jean (Andy) Troop and brother Neil.
Jack was loving, kind, hardworking, smart and had a quick sense of humor that lit up the room with laughter. Married for almost 60 years, he loved his family and watching his 5 grandkids grow up. Fondly known as “Piggyback” grandpa, he was a regular at rinks and ball diamonds for many years. Jack was a great swimmer and loved the water, a highlight for him was snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. He was born, grew up and farmed on the “Marais” and although he retired into Winnipeg and travelled all over the world with Ros, his heart was always there with all the friends and community that surround it. He loved being on the tractor, farming the same land that his father, uncle and grandfather worked before him. Jack served on the Municipal Council of Montcalm and on the Altona Credit Union Board for several years. He was a local representative for United Grain Growers Limited, and a member of the Emerson Elks.
The family would like to thank the wonderful healthcare staff at VGH Urgent Care and SBH CCU. Their compassion and care were outstanding in our time of need. Especially, Dr. Kuo, Kaitlyn, Caitlyn and the team at VGH, thank you is not enough for giving us more time with dad to say goodbye.
In memory of Jack, donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.
