It is with heavy hearts that the family of our beloved Jean (Joan) Noel announce her passing on September 6th 2022.
Our Mom, Godmother, sister, grandmother (gigi), aunt, cousin and dear friend was a paragon of strength, compassion and love. Jean was born in St. David's, Grenada in the Caribbean. As a young adult she moved to Barbados and finally to Canada where she settled and began to build her life in 1975. She worked for over thirty years at the health sciences center as a nurse's aid and then as a respiratory technician.
She was an active community volunteer and had a passion and natural gift for taking great care of others. As an excellent cook, she was known around the community for her delicious beef patties. She loved gardening, an activity that began with her grandad, Greenidge, and a tradition that she carried on with her daughter, Cassandra and granddaughter, Katrina. She enjoyed spending long summer days tending and talking to her peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, beans, strawberries and flowers. Jean had a great sense of humor. When her sister Caroline passed away she was not buried on the family land like she wanted, so Jean got her a pair of slippers and put them on her grave site so that Caroline could walk to the family land. That is just an example of the humor we all got to enjoy and appreciate.
During her lifetime, Jean had the opportunity to travel, visiting Paris, France. Jean did not speak any French, and this was noted by the driver on the way to Paris, so he kept speaking directly to her in French, simple things like "hello" or "how are you", and her eyes would open very wide when he did this. It was all in good fun and she had a good laugh when she recalled those moments. She also visited Bern and Lucerne, Switzerland, Baden-Baden, Trier and other parts Germany. On a few occasions she returned to the Caribbean to enjoy the beauty of the islands and spend time with her loved ones.
Jean was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Virginia Noel and her siblings Monica, Theresa, Jerry, Caroline and Bertrand.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters Jennifer and Cassandra, god daughter Jennyve, grandchildren Katrina, Ariana and Ronan. Her sisters Gretel, Angela, Linda, Alison and their families. Her neices Ebony, Natasha and family. Her cousins Ena and Eleutha (Ele) and their families. Her extended family in Grenada, Barbados, Canada and the USA.
Special thanks to her friends Beryl Thomas, Diana (Do-Do) Macdonald, Myrna Forde, Wendy Alleyne, Jerry Davy, Emmanuel (Scotty) Bowen and every friend she knew and loved in Winnipeg and across the globe.
Jean was truly a blessing to those who had the chance to grow a relationship with her. She will be greatly missed.
She will be laid to rest in her beloved town of La Femme in Grenada.
Love is patient,
love is kind.
It does not envy.
It does not boast,
it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others,
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.
Love never fails.
