Hubert Francois Brodeur

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Hubert Brodeur at the St. Boniface Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with his illness.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Sigrid Schibler, son Paul (Emily Kipe) step-granddaughter Caela Gangler brother Joseph (Lorraine Kosman), sisters Thérèse (Jacques Rollier), Jeannette (Ken Wood) and Jacqueline

(Gratton) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Many cousins will also remember and miss Hubert.

He is predeceased by his father Edmond and mother Jeanne (Jutras), his first wife Elaine (Aucoin), and brother in law Louis Gratton.

Hubert worked and lived in St. Adolphe, Manitoba his entire life. After high school, he worked in the family business (Brodeur Frères) alongside his father and his uncle Henri Brodeur. In 1971, Hubert became Dealer Principle for General Motors and until 1990, the business also continued to sell farm implements for Massey Ferguson. After many successful years, the business was forced to close in 2010.

In Hubert’s younger years, he played baseball and hockey. He also had a great love of boating, waterskiing, fishing, hunting, curling and snowmobile trips. Hubert was an avid supporter of the original Winnipeg Jets and rarely missed attending games. His love of hockey remained with him all his life.

Hubert was dedicated to his community and his volunteering began as a young man chauffeuring the sisters of the St. Adolphe Convent. In the early 1960’s Hubert and a group of volunteers established a Fire Department. He became volunteer Fire Chief for 25 years retiring in 1987. There were many other projects that Hubert initiated with volunteers such as a curling rink, a youth centre, and the upstairs of the hockey rink which was completely finished to become the community Pioneer Hall.

A place of refuge for Hubert was his beloved cottage. Amongst the majesty of trees, the lake and animal life, Hubert was constantly awed by the simplicity and beauty of his surroundings. This is also where Hubert entertained his family and for many years throughout summer weekends family members were always welcomed. We all share beautiful memories that will forever remain in our hearts.

Throughout his life, Hubert had plans and ideas that came to fruition from work done in his shed and in his cottage. In his last years, he had help from family members and mostly from his friend Davey Thomas who provided unlimited assistance.

Hubert had a very fulfilling life. His accomplishments were numerous and his contributions to his family and his community will always be remembered. Hubert was able to live his life (his way) and his memory will be cherished with love and gratitude.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Adolphe Catholic Church (402 Main St.) on November 1st at 1 pm. Reception to follow at the Pioneer Hall (345 St. Adolphe Rd., upstairs at the hockey rink)
