After a long and courageous battle with heart disease Henry Richard Leis left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on November 30, 2010 with his family by his side, at Concordia Hospital.
Henry was born June 30, 1924 in Runny Mede, Saskatchewan. He worked long hard hours on the family farm until he decided to try city life. Henry and his first wife Alvina came to Winnipeg, where they started their family. Tragically, Alvina succumbed to cancer at a young age, leaving a son Doug and a daughter Sharyl. While working at Motor Coach Industries he met Audrey, his wife of 36 years, he became stepdad to Lynda, Sandra, Norma and Tim.
Henry and Audrey were blessed with the same interests and spent many memorable times enjoying the outdoors, whether their cottage, hunting, fishing or traveling with their 5th wheel. Henry had a green thumb, having many a wonderful garden. Anyone enjoying a tomato sandwich, picked fresh from his vines enjoyed the fruit of his labor. Henry was an active member of the Wildlife Federation and taught Junior Rifle for many years, both of which he had a great respect for.
Henry is survived by two sisters, Elsie and Adeline and 3 brothers, Fred Ronnie and Arnie. He will be sadly missed by wife Audrey, children Sharyl, Doug, Lynda, Sandra, Norma, Tim and many extended family members and friends.
Family received visitors at Klassen Funeral Home Thursday December 2, 2010 between 7pm and 9 pm.
A service was held at 1:00 pm on Friday at Peace Lutheran Church 350 Gilmore Ave. with interment following at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a donation in Henry’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation 200-6 Donald St. R3L 0K6, or to the Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
