Helen was born in 1938 to Peter & Katherine Loewen in Landmark, MB.
Helen was baptized on the confession of her faith at 14 years old at the Prairie Rose Church. As a teenager she worked as a missionary going to towns during the summer for week long kids Bible camps and teaching Sunday School in neighboring towns.
Helen met the love of her life, Jim Penner, at a young adult baseball tournament. They were married in 1961 making their home and life in Winnipeg. They had two daughters – Wendy & Bonnie. Activities with their own family and extended family was important. Along with their friends and family they loved travelling, picnics in the park, watching a Rainbow Stage production, going to Bomber & Jets games or just a sit down visit. Helen was a great hostess and made her guests feel at home.
Jim and Helen shared their love of God and importance of serving. Helen was involved with starting the Pioneer Girls club and taught Sunday School at the Braeside Church where she and Jim were members since the church opened in 1968. Later, she volunteered with the Peace Makers making quilts and volunteering at Vacation Bible School.
It was with great sadness Helen lost her best friend and husband Jim in 2003. This was a new twist in the road and not one of her choosing. She found her strength through faith in her Lord.
Helen chose to be joyful & content in all situations, even as her memory was fading and later during the recovery of her broken neck bone and as her illness took hold. She would go out of her way to let us know that we were loved and how thankful she was for the family and friends in her life. She was at peace in her knowledge of eternity in Heaven with Jesus her Saviour.
Funeral services will be held at the Braeside EM Church @ 1011 Munroe Ave, Winnipeg
November 18th @ 1:30 with refreshments after the service.
