It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jerry (Gerald Ernest) Jerrett in January 11, never believing he would make to 93, but disappointed he did not make it to 94.
Predeceased by his wife Evelyn in 2015, he leaves his daughters Sheila and Shereen; grandchildren Alden Sefton (Joanne) Jane and Nora; Theo Jerrett-Enns (Cassandra Tycholiz) Eleanor and Everett; Bronwyn Jerrett Enns (Kyle Horvath); and his sister Sybil Carrothers, and nieces Shannon and Kathy.
Born in 1930, Dad lived a happy life dedicated to the service of his community. He believed that with the right tools he could help any group of people build meaningful lives.
Dad graduated Brandon University class of ’51. He worked for the YMCA as an Executive Director in various Winnipeg branches, where he developed and fundraised programs for families and under-served people from Winnipeg to South America. The rebuild of the North YMCA was of particular pride for him. He finished his career building programs for North East Winnipeg Family and Child Extended Services. He served on numerous boards, including the Social Planning Council, Manitoba Council for International Cooperation, the Advisory Council for the UofM Inner City Social Work Access program, and the Canadian International Development Agency.
In his last years he was fundraising chair for Pembina Active Living, living his commitment to community to the end.
He was an avid golfer, winning many tournaments, and was never happier than the hours spent on courses all over the area, Wildwood being a favorite. In retirement, summers were spent with his wife at the lake, and they would snowbird in Arizona during the winter.
He loved people who were passionate, and encouraged us all to live life to the fullest, in all its manifestations. In lieu of flowers, he would tell you to go do something you love, and make a difference today.
