Donald Samuel Simons

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sharon (Rick) Stanley and Stephen (Janet) Simons; grandchildren, Scott (Hayley) Simons, Laura Simons (Morgan Cheyne) and Erin Stanley; brother-in-law, Bruce Ingram; sister-in-law, Edna Simons; brother and sister in-law, Mark and Joanne McGrath; sister in law, Audrey Kettenberg and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his wife Theresa (Terry); infant great grandson, Harrison James Simons; parents, Ida and Samuel Simons; brother Richard Simons; sister and brother in-law, Joyce and Leo Dadalt; sister in-law, Lillian Ingram and brother in-law, Richard Kettenberg.

Don was born in Winnipeg and grew up on Toronto Street. He attended John M King, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre schools. After high school Dad enrolled at the University of Manitoba in engineering, graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1949. Dad's first job was with the Winnipeg Electric Company which eventually became Manitoba Hydro. He worked in several departments at Manitoba Hydro over his 37 year career, retiring from the position of manager T & S Electrical Construction Department.

Dad met Mom at the Winnipeg Electric Company and they were married in 1954. Shortly after, Dad was seconded to the Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd, in Deep River, Ontario for two years but returned after one as he completed his assignment early. Upon their return to Winnipeg they were able to weekend and vacation at the family cottage at Ingolf again. This led Don and Terry to build their own cottage on the property next door where they spent all summers and many winter weekends. Dad was very involved in the Ingolf Campers Association helping out on work parties and serving on the executive for several years. Dad was a very hard worker as both he and mom built two cottages together with minimal help. In retirement Don volunteered at the Manitoba Electrical Museum helping archive old equipment and historical documents. He was eventually convinced to serve on the executive of the museum. Mom and Dad also enjoyed their travels to Hawaii, Barbados, Europe, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and Canadian and US destinations.

Dad was a loving husband, father and grandfather supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their activities and life endeavors. He will be missed but great memories will live on.

The family would like to thank the staff at Misericordia 5th floor Interim care and Misericordia Place for the care they provided over the last two years as well as their kindness and compassion towards Dad. We would like to also thank the Grace Hospital 3rd floor South staff for the care and compassion they provided to Dad in his final days.

At Dad's request, no memorial service will be held. A private internment will take place at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
