Dave was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 29, 1942, and was predeceased by his father David, his brother Wayne, and in -laws Reginald & Anne Follett.
Dave was a man who wore many hats throughout his life. He grew up in East Kildonan/Elmwood as a young boy. Full of ambition, in 1959 he joined the East Kildonan Fire Department, which later amalgamated with the City of Winnipeg. After 32 years with the service, he retired and successfully built Red River Messenger Courier. After a second very successful career, David retired from RRMC in 2008. David coached hockey for many years, and had a passion for race cars, and from 1972-1978 he raced Yamaha sleds.
In 2010, David married the love of his life Sheena, and together they enjoyed the last 7 years travelling, RVing and spent each year living between East. St. Paul and Mesa, Arizona. Right up until the day before he passed, he often could be heard saying he ‘won the lottery’ when he married Sheena, and gained her entire family. He loved them all as if they were his own.
We would like to thank wonderful nursing staff in 3E at Concordia Hospital, Dr. Darcy Johnson, and Dr. Ted St. Godard from Palliative Care. Your care and compassion for David is much appreciated.
Donations can be made in David’s memory to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Kildonan Community Church, 2373 Main Street at 1:00 pm.
