It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Ord peacefully at home with her family by her side.
Carol was predeceased by, and is now with her loving parents (Clifford Moffat 2006) and (Catherine Isabelle 2002).
Carol will be deeply missed by her loving husband Alex of 41 years. She was the love of his life. She will be lovingly remembered by son Scott (Charlene) and numerous cousins and friends.
Carol had a wonderful childhood growing up in the tight knit community of McNaughton St. in the Fort Rouge area of Winnipeg. She had great memories of her teen years attending Churchill High School where she made many lifelong friends. She was very bright and did well at school however, academics was not her interest. She was skilled at the home economic arts: culinary and fashion. She sewed many of her own clothes in high school and entered the Home Economics Course at the University of Manitoba. She did not complete a degree as she was soon drawn to the airline business. After a short stint with a travel company in Winnipeg she was offered a marketing job in Toronto with the start-up charter airline Wardair. This turned into a near 20 year career with Wardair. She loved the excitement of the airline business.
It was in Toronto where she met Alex in early 1980. He introduced her to the cottage life on the islands of Georgian Bay, and she introduced him to the world of travel, with multiple trips to London, Hawaii, and many other destinations. They were married in August of 1981. After son Scott was born in 1991, they moved to Winnipeg to be close to grandparents Cliff and Kay. For a short time she kept her hand in the airline business by working at the Winnipeg airport as a passenger agent. Carol was a very caring, compassionate person and loved interacting with colleagues and passengers alike. Very quickly it became apparent that her only real important job in life was the caring of her son. Thus she became a full time mom providing a warm, happy, loving home. She was quick to welcome many of Scott’s friends over the years, a group of whom became known as ‘her boys’. She took an active part in Scott’s schooling at St. Johns Ravenscourt, volunteering in the library and participating in many field trips.
Carol loved to laugh and had a very quick wit that made us laugh. She truly enjoyed the Christmas gatherings, the New Year’s Day pyjama parties and dinners at the Isle of Ord in Lake of the Woods with our friends of 30 years. Because of her friendliness and inclination to talk to people she made a new group of friends at our new home in Arizona. The event that brought her fulfillment during a difficult time was the marriage of Scott and Charlene in our home in May of 2022. Her life’s lessons will continue to guide them for years to come.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Suffia Ahmad, the Palliative Care team and the staff of Comfort Keepers who helped us care for her in her final days. Their compassion and support is greatly appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service of Carol’s life will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 29 at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Those who wish to view the service online can select "Join Livestream" below.
