Born on 26 October 1926 in Attleborough, Norfolk, England, youngest child of John Edward Dodman and Ella May Dodman (Perry). She was predeceased by her parents, six sisters, four brothers, and husband Bob (2006).
Alyson served in the RAF for five years, and then emigrated to Canada in 1949 to join her sister Betty in Cornwall, Ontario. She joined the RCAF in 1953, and while stationed in Portage la Prairie she met and married her soulmate, Bob, in 1956. They were stationed in many places over the years, moving with their two sons to McDonald, Centralia, Germany, Ottawa, Gimli, and back to Germany. Bob retired in 1970 and they settled in Winnipeg.
In 1972, Alyson rejoined the RCAF to bring in the first female Air Cadets to 220 Red River Air Cadet Sqn. She later took over as the first female Commanding Officer of a Cadet Squadron in Manitoba. She retired in 1985 and she and Bob moved to British Columbia. After Bob’s death in 2006, Alyson came back to Winnipeg in 2007 to be closer to family and old friends.
Alyson was a social butterfly and loved to entertain. She spent the last years of her life living at the Waverley, where she made many wonderful friends. She loved animals and had many furry companions throughout her life. She was famous for her hot pepper jelly, which she sold at craft fairs and handed out generously to friends and family.
She always said that she was truly blessed to have had nearly 51 years with her soulmate, two truly wonderful sons, four beautiful grandchildren, and one wonderful daughter-in-law (who she often said was the daughter she never had).
