Alan was predeceased by his father, Jack. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Nicole, daughter Brooklyn, mother Myrna, mother and father-in-law Marlene and Brian Miller, brother Gary (Tia), sister-in-law Lindsay Tranq (Joel), nieces Myren and Kai, nephews Bodin and Leander, and many extended family and friends.
Alan had a way about him that put people at ease. He was able to strike up a conversation with people from any walk of life, and seemed to know someone everywhere he went. He loved our family BBQs, often telling stories and making everyone laugh.
Alan was an avid sports fan, and could always be found talking about the Winnipeg Jets, New York Yankees, or San Francisco 49ers. Alan and his father were the proud owners and operators of Upper Deck Sports Cards and Collectibles on Henderson Hwy for many years.
After selling the business, Alan began working as a Security Officer with OBO Security. He worked many events and concerts over the years, and eventually began working at Concordia Hospital. During this time, Alan was also an Auxiliary Constable with the Selkirk RCMP for several years, which he thoroughly enjoyed and was incredibly passionate about. After 12 years working as a Security Officer and Security Supervisor, he received a promotion in 2012, into the role of Manager of Security Services at Concordia Hospital. Alan approached his role and position very seriously, overseeing the safety and protection of patients, families and staff.
It was at Concordia Hospital that he eventually met his wife, Nicole. He was Nicole’s best friend, her rock and her protector. He kept her grounded, and put her in her place when she needed it (more than she would ever admit). They proudly welcomed their daughter, Brooklyn Paige, in August 2014. Brooklyn was the absolute joy of Alan’s life. He lit up whenever she was around. They could often be found skating, throwing a baseball, playing games, or cuddling on the couch watching TV. He and Brooklyn taught each other so many invaluable life lessons.
Our time together was way too short. We will be forever thankful for the time we had together, and will always cherish our memories.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 1:00pm, at Klassen Funeral Home at 1897 Henderson Hwy. Reception to follow. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed through a link in his obituary on the Klassen webpage. Private family interment will occur at a later date.
To honour Alan’s love of sports and the Caribbean, consider wearing your favourite team jersey/shirt or a Hawaiian shirt.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the True North Youth Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
