Slipped away quietly, surrounded by love. Husband of 42 years to Anne McCallum. Father of Kyle (Michelle) and Granddaddy to Ewan. Son of the late John (1989) and Lizzie (1976) Reid. Brother of the late Mary (2013) & Johnnie (1996) Twigg, John & Betty, Duncan & the late Jean (2014), the late Frank (1976) & Bet (2005). Son-in-law of the Late James (2001) & Mary (2007) McCallum and Brother-in-law of John & Chrissy, the late Claire (2009) & Richard, Mary & Don. Uncle to Duncan John, Roger (Diana), Randy (Dolina), Diane, Kelly, Susanne (Paul), Paul, Michael (Judy 2012), Irene (Alan), Wilma (Laurie), Alan (Debbie), Duncan (Marilyn), Frank, Cathy, Jeff (Melissa), Tony, Robert, Michelle as well as many great nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada, USA, Scotland, England, New Zealand and Australia. Ian was born in Fettercairn, Scotland. After graduating, he worked as a photographer in Aberdeen before beginning his apprenticeship as a tool maker in Leicester, England. He immigrated to Canada in 1967 when he was hired by Colonial Tool on Walker Rd. There he furthered his career becoming Plant Manager and finally General Manager and CEO. His innovative ideas and processes helped obtain many patents for the company. Ian was an eclectic collector and an avid reader who enjoyed art, literature and poetry, especially Robert Burns. He enjoyed travelling and had a great love of history, airplanes, soccer and all types of music, especially traditional Celtic. He was co-founder of the traditional Celtic Band Strathmore, singing, playing guitar, banjo and bodhran and, on many an occasion, was referred to as the Grandfather of Traditional Music in Windsor. Ian was a former member of the Scottish Club, the Irish Canadian Cultural Club and the Anglo Club.
Visitation will be held at the Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre (519-252-5711) on Friday, September 11, 2015 from 6-8pm and on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 2-4 pm. A Celebration on his life will take place at 4:00pm following Saturday’s visitation in the Funeral Home Chapel. The celebration of Ian's life will continue following the service at The Scottish Club on 1340 Tecumseh Rd. E.
